Karkloof Nature Reserve
General Information
Karkloof Nature Reserve is situated on the eastern side of the Midlands Meander just north of Howick. It is an unspoilt area filled with vast grasslands, wetlands and indigenous yellowwood and stinkwood forests.
The reserve has a significant number of endemic and near-endemic species of flora and fauna which includes the Karkloof Blue Butterfly.
The Karkloof is a flat-topped range that forms a wall between the coast and Drakensberg. The bird life here is prolific and is also the perfect breeding area for the Martial Eagle. Keep a look out for the endangered Cape parrot!

Popular activities are hiking and mountain biking. Canopy tours are also available for those adventure seekers. The slides are long and provide unparalleled views.
